About the Wazau BKF Horizontal Burning Rate Tester
The BKF from Wazau (Dr.-Ing. Georg Wazau Mess- + Prüfsysteme GmbH, Berlin, Germany) is a horizontal burning rate tester. It allows tests on the burning rate of materials or composite materials used in the passenger compartment of motor vehicles, to DIN 75200, FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795. A precisely defined pilot flame acts over a certain period of time.
A specimen is clamped horizontally in a holding frame. The flame from a burner, precisely defined in size and orientation, acts on an edge of the specimen over a defined period of time. The test standards specify the exact parameters of the test procedure, such as flame orientation and exposure.
The combustion box and specimen holder are stainless steel, and the burner has flame protection and mechanical piezo ignition. A timer unit with solenoid valve is available as an option, and additional specimen holders can be supplied for specific standards such as VW, Toyota and Nissan. The tester runs on commercial natural gas and needs a fume cupboard or flue gas exhaust, which the customer provides.
