About the TLI TXL-YAN-014 Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter
The TXL-YAN-014 is an oxygen bomb calorimeter from TexLab Instruments (TLI), Istanbul, Turkey. It measures the gross heat of combustion (PCS) of building materials to EN ISO 1716 and the gross calorific value (GCV) of coal and coke to ISO 1928, ASTM D5865 and IS 1350 (Part 2). One platform covers fire-reaction testing of building products and fuel quality control of coal and coke; the method is selected in the software.
The sample burns in oxygen at constant volume inside a sealed bomb immersed in a stirred water bucket. Bucket and jacket temperatures are measured separately in an isoperibol arrangement, and the result is calculated from the temperature rise, the energy equivalent and the method corrections. Typical materials are building materials, fiberglass membranes, binders and coatings for material development and quality control, and coal and coke for fuel quality control.
The instrument has a 7-inch touchscreen PLC/HMI, and PC software for method selection, temperature curves, evaluation and reports is included. It is calibrated with certified benzoic acid; the energy equivalent is specific to the configuration. Net calorific value and moisture-basis conversions are calculated from the required additional analysis inputs, and low-energy samples use method-specific combustion aids and corrections.

It measures the gross heat of combustion (PCS) of building materials to EN ISO 1716 and the gross calorific value (GCV) of coal and coke to ISO 1928, ASTM D5865 and IS 1350 (Part 2). Results are reported in MJ/kg.
Which standards does the calorimeter cover?
EN ISO 1716:2018 for building products (reaction to fire, EN 13501-1), ISO 1928:2025 and ASTM D5865/D5865M-19 for coal and coke, and IS 1350 (Part 2):2022, the Indian standard adopted from ISO 1928:2020. The method is selected in the software.
How does the measurement work?
The sample burns in oxygen at constant volume inside a sealed bomb immersed in a stirred water bucket. Bucket and jacket temperatures are measured separately in an isoperibol arrangement, and the result is calculated from the temperature rise, the energy equivalent and the method corrections for heat exchange, ignition, combustion aids and acid / sulfur.
How is the instrument calibrated?
